About the role

A Controller helps keep the financial side of the business clear, accurate, and under control.

At MOOV, that means making sure shipments are billed correctly, costs are properly recorded, payroll is processed accurately, margins are reliable, and ownership has a clear view of the company’s financial position.

This is a hands-on role covering the full accounting cycle, from monthly reporting and reconciliations to billing, payables, payroll, cash flow, and financial controls.

You will work closely with ownership, operations, administrative team members, and external accounting partners. We are looking for someone who is sharp, dependable, analytical, and comfortable taking real ownership of the numbers.

This is a hybrid position, with a presence expected in our Montréal office about two days per week.

What the day to day looks like

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain the general ledger and complete bank, credit card, balance sheet, and account reconciliations.
  • Record accruals, prepaid expenses, journal entries, and financial adjustments.
  • Oversee customer billing, receivables, overdue balances, and billing disputes.
  • Manage carrier and vendor invoices, payment schedules, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee employee payroll, deductions, remittances, benefits, vacation balances, and year-end reporting.
  • Ensure shipment revenue and related costs are recorded accurately.
  • Review gross profit and margin by shipment, customer, lane, and service category.
  • Identify missing costs, unbilled charges, negative-margin shipments, and financial discrepancies.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts, budgets, and variance reports.
  • Support GST, HST, QST, tax filings, audits, and year-end reporting.
  • Help manage Canadian and U.S. transactions, multiple currencies, and foreign exchange reconciliations.
  • Strengthen financial controls and improve accounting processes as the company grows.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience preparing monthly financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle.
  • Experience with month-end close, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing recurring deadlines.
  • Able to investigate discrepancies and understand the operational details behind the numbers.
  • Comfortable communicating financial information directly to ownership.
  • High level of discretion with confidential financial and employee information.

Nice to have

  • Experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or another high-volume environment.
  • Experience with Canadian and U.S. transactions or multiple currencies.
  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • A CPA designation or progress toward one.
  • Bilingual in English and French.
